چکیده

Most of the enveloppes of Planetary Nebulae (and other objects like novae) are far from beeing homogeneous: clumps, knots and tails are often observed. We present here the first attempt to build a 3D-photoionization model of a knot and the corresponding tail, ionized by diffused radiation issuing from surrounding material.

mocassin: 3D photoionisation and dust radiative transfer modelling of PNe

We present the first 3D Monte Carlo photoionisation code to include a fully self-consistent treatment of dust radiative transfer (RT) within the photoionised region. This is the latest development of the recently published pure photoionisation code mocassin (Ercolano et al., 2003a) and it is currently undergoing several benchmarking tests. The preliminary results of these tests are presented in...

How well do we know the physical/chemical properties of PNe? 1D (CLOUDY) and 3D (MOCASSIN) photoionisation codes are used in this contribution to model the PNe K 4-47 and NGC 7009 as an attempt to question whether or not the high Te (higher than 21,000K) of the K 4-47’s core and the N overabundance of the outer knots in NGC 7009 are real. These are very basic parameters, obtained for Galactic P...

X-ray Enabled Mocassin: a 3d Code for Photoionized Media

We present a new version of the fully 3D photoionization and dust radiative transfer code, mocassin, that uses a Monte Carlo approach for the transfer of radiation. The X-ray enabled mocassin allows a fully geometry independent description of low-density gaseous environments strongly photoionized by a radiation field extending from radio to gamma rays. The code has been thoroughly benchmarked a...

A Survey of Real-time Soft Shadows Algorithms

Recent advances in GPU technology have produced a shift in focus for real-time rendering applications, whereby improvements in image quality are sought in addition to raw polygon display performance. Rendering effects such as antialiasing, motion blur and shadow casting are becoming commonplace and will likely be considered indispensable in the near future. The last complete and famous survey o...

Perspective Shadow Maps: Care and Feeding

Shadow generation has always been a big problem in real-time 3D graphics. Determining whether a point is in shadow is not a trivial operation for modern GPUs, particularly because GPUs work in terms of rasterizing polygons instead of ray tracing. Today's shadows should be completely dynamic. Almost every object in the scene should cast and receive shadows, there should be self-shadowing, and ev...
